Fun Creek Adventure
A few weeks ago, I had the most wonderful time creating Magical Children’s Portraits in Melbourne with two adventurous little ones—a 3-year-old boy and 5-year-old sister. We spent the afternoon by a gorgeous creek, having fun and taking loads of photos. It already felt magical, but what made it even better was how much fun the kids (and their family) brought to the experience.

Styling the water creek session
Mum did an incredible job with their styling – simple, thoughtful choices that were super comfortable for the kids while still looking beautifully put together.
She chose soft, neutral tones that kept the focus on their sweet faces and genuine expressions… then added brighter rain boots for a cheeky, playful twist.
And let me tell you:
rain boots + water = pure happiness.
The kids were all giggles, happily stomping through puddles and splashing in the creek.

Props That Add Story, Play, and Magic
To make this creek session even more immersive, we brought a few simple props — nothing complicated, just little items that whispered adventure.
Mum brought along a handmade fishing line that instantly became the star of the show. The kids pretended to catch fish, carefully placing their “catch” into a tiny metal bucket. Every moment felt candid, playful, and so authentically them.
We also brought:
- a tiny wooden boat
- a clear umbrella (perfect for rainy-day vibes)
- a little bucket for exploring the creek
These props didn’t just look great — they kept the kids busy, engaged, and full of wonder, which is every photographer’s dream.

And Then… The Duck Showed Up
Yes – a duck.
The family’s pet duck, Waddlesworth (best name ever), joined us for the entire session. He waddled confidently into the creek and swam little circles around us like he’d been waiting his whole life for this photoshoot.
The kids were absolutely thrilled.
I was thrilled.
Waddlesworth was… unbothered and fabulous.
At one point we thought he might float away into his own adventure, but he always circled back to his family. The photos of him next to the kids? Pure gold.
Honestly, I think Waddlesworth stole the show and I’m totally okay with that.

Why This Session Mean So Much
This session had everything: laughter, splashes, imagination, connection… and a duck sidekick.
But what made it truly special wasn’t the creek or the props or even the styling. It was that the kids had so much fun.
And mums… this part’s for you.
These ages don’t stay little for long.
These tiny hands, these fearless way they explore the world, these big belly laughs – they are always changing.
I love these sessions where we can allow kids to be completely themselves:
wild, joyful, adventurous, curious, imperfect, perfect.
And you get to keep those pieces of childhood forever.
This is why I love creating Magical Children’s Portraits in Melbourne – because the magic is already there. I just help you hold onto it.

Ready for Your Own Adventure?
Every child has their own little world. Maybe it’s splashing in water, climbing rocks, collecting treasures, or making up tiny stories with sticks and leaves. Whatever your little ones naturally love to do, we can build a session around that.
A creek session is just one kind of adventure. We can create something magical anywhere your kids feel free, joyful, and completely themselves. My job is to follow their lead and catch all those real, beautiful moments while they play.
If you’re dreaming of Magical Children’s Portraits in Melbourne that feel fun, natural, meaningful, and perfectly tailored to your child’s personality, I’d love to bring that to life for your family.
